Thinking Your Way to Success

Did you know that you can guarantee yourself a good day simply by waking up with a positive attitude? Its true; just think about it. How did you feel when you woke up this morning – you know, in that quiet instance between asleep and awake, when you know you should get up but you are waiting for your mind to kick in? Did you take a deep breath and sigh with contentment, pleased to be alive on a beautiful morning? Or, like most of us, did you moan in despair at the thought of another working day, another day coping with overactive children, or another day stuck inside because its raining yet again?

Now think about what you did next. Did you bounce out of bed, rush into the shower and start singing as you washed your hair? Or did you bury yourself under the covers until the snooze on your alarm clock forced you out of bed, so reluctant to start another day? Can you see how your attitude when you woke up has already impacted your behaviour for the day? And that same attitude keeps impacting your behaviour – All Day!!

Life isn’t always fair, or easy – I am not suggesting for a moment that it should be. After all if life were easy where would be our sense of achievement, our reasons for growth as a person, our reason to get up in the morning? But you can impact your behaviours through the day, simply by choosing to have a good day when you wake up. That’s right – it is a choice – and more importantly it is your choice.

I can hear you all clamouring from here – “but my life is different…but you don’t understand…I don’t chose to be like this…” and so on. I do know; I do understand; I have been there – where you are now. But when I found that I could positively impact my day, purely and simply by waking up with a positive attitude, I felt empowered because it gave me control over my life. Rather than giving my power away to my boss, my children, my colleagues, my whatever, I chose to respond to things in my life differently. And that changed my life for the better.

Although we all feel that life is really complex, it isn’t. Life is full of a number of petty little hassles that many of us get stuck in day after day, but ask yourself just how many of the things you do in a day are really important – I mean life and death important. It is easy to get so overwhelmed with the “little things” that we forget just how wonderful life can be. But if you feel overwhelmed and tired of the daily grind you have chosen for yourself, wouldn’t you jump at the chance to do something about it – for FREE.

Honestly what have you got to lose? Just take this little challenge. For the next ten days train yourself to feel good about life when you wake up. It can be done. Even if the only positive thing in your day is that you are healthy enough to get out of bed – be thankful for it, and put a smile on your face. Smile when you go into the corner shop – smile at your taxi driver – smile when you get into work. And if you start to feel you are getting bogged down with life again, remind yourself that while you are breathing you have a chance to change your life for the better. All you have to do is chose to make the change. It is that simple.
